Really weird how this came about. I had this picture of a sea turtle I took in South Padre at Sea Turtle, Inc, Summer 2012.
We were talking about some of my pictures and some Florida trip plans and my friend said something to the effect of, "If you get the chance while in Florida, do a sea turtle." She loves sea turtles! She had no idea I had this picture and I told her, "Well, funny you mention that, cause I have one I have been going back to over and over, mainly because of the pattern on the shell....."
I couldn't get it out of my head. My boys, Logan and Landon, love sea turtles too and Logan is beyond excited about this one.
I call it "Phoenix 13", because the more I looked at the pattern that kept bringing me back to it, I realized while working on it, that it reminded me of a Phoenix rising from the ashes.... and 13 because all turtles have 13 scutes.
The best part about the whole thing, this particular rescued sea turtle was rehabilitated and set free, now swimming in the Gulf of Mexico where it should be.
