Have you ever seen a Blue Winged Teal duck? At first glance, it’s nothing like this picture that is for sure. In fact, you can stare at it all day and it will never look like this picture.
My friend Mike is an avid duck hunter. He got a Blue Winged Teal on the Brazos river on one of his duck escapades, took a picture of the “teal” on it’s wings and posted it on Facebook. For his duck hunting friends, I guess it was the rarity of such a find that time of year, but I saw something different, rare in it’s own way.
I recently came back to this picture and worked on it some more. The more I worked, the more I realized the spectrum of colors, not just teal and brown.
When you look at a Blue Winged Teal duck doing what ducks do, you see a glimpse of color under all those brown feathers. It’s when they take flight and you notice, “OMG, look what was under there all that time!”
Kind of like people, you never know what is below the surface. You don’t know what they are capable of and how they can surprise you with their uniqueness hidden from view, until they take flight. And when they do, they can amaze you.
